FAQs
Can anyone join NannyGranny?
NannyGranny has been proudly developed to support experienced caregivers, particularly women, aged 50 and above. We firmly believe in diversity and equal opportunity for all, and we recognise that talent, dedication, and compassion come in all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Therefore, we welcome candidates of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and abilities that feel their experience and personal values align to those of NannyGranny. NannyGranny is committed to fostering an inclusive connection platform where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered.
What is a Working with Children Check ?
A Working With Children Check is the most widely accepted childcare check in Australia. In most states a WWCC is required when someone is working directly with children.
At NannyGranny, we prompt all candidates to confirm they have an active WWCC, but the responsibility remains with parents to check and verify WWCC before they hire a NannyGranny. We do not conduct general Police Checks as we believe the WWCC is more appropriate and thorough for our site.
The WWCC is different to a police check. A WWCC check involves a search for child-related offences and a risk assessment by the relevant State authority. The result is either a positive WWCC check or a decline. In contrast, a Police Check is criminal record search and will result in a certificate that sets out any offences. A Police Check will reveal any convictions such as driving offences and theft.
Do NannyGrannies help with housework?
Many NannyGrannies are willing to do some light housework as part of their job. However, it’s important to be up front about your expectations when you post a job or meet a NannyGranny in person to ensure you find the right match. Light housework typically covers a range of duties for running a household including light cleaning, washing, ironing and running errands. Generally ‘light housekeeping’ doesn’t extend to bathroom cleaning or anything equally specific. NannyGrannies are asked if they’re happy to do this kind of work when they create their profile so you can find the information there or ‘refine’ your search to include ‘light-housekeeping’.
How does the Job Posting page work?
The Job Posting is quick and easy to fill out. Once live it will be viewed by a wide range of NannyGrannies looking for work and you’ll receive applications through the internal messaging system.
Your Job Posting can be kept on the NannyGranny website for the duration of your membership or until you fill the position.
Are NannyGrannies "Registered" with The Department of Human Services so I can claim the Child Care Benefit?
Some NannyGrannies are ‘registered’ child-carers, and you will notice an “R” symbol included on their profile. NannyGrannies are responsible for registering with The Department of Human Services but this is not something we screen for. For further information about registered care and eligibility for the Child Care Benefit please contact The Department of Human Services Child Care Benefit Website humanservices.gov.au
How is this site different to a nanny agency?
NannyGranny is an online network of mature-aged nannies looking for childcare work. It’s an easy way for parents to find your very own NannyGranny. When you join the community, your membership will unlock the network for a set period and during this time, you are welcome to access and explore the site to find your NannyGranny. Because we’re not an agency with ongoing feels and schedules, we only screen NannyGrannies for a valid WWCC, we do not make recommendations for your specific needs, make guarantees or process any bookings. Nor do we charge you any overheads, commissions, cancellations or other agency fees. Please read our Terms of Use for more information.
How much should I pay my NannyGranny?
There is no simple answer to this question but we thought it would be helpful to offer some guidelines.
For a NannyGranny that works part-time, rates are dependent on hours and needs. In July 2024, the minimum wage increased to $24.10 per hour.
Fully Qualified NannyGrannies (with formal childcare quals or Registered Carers) are more likely to earn $25-$30+.
These rates are only a guide and you will need to agree the exact rate with your NannyGranny before they begin work. Always make sure that you are paying at least the award rate (current award rates can be found at www.fairwork.gov.au). Sometimes, if the NannyGranny is required to drive the child from place to place, they may required the use of a car (if they do not have a car).
Taxes are another consideration when you become an employer. You will need to gather this information from the ATO to find out how to register for tax payments and what you will need to actually pay, how much and how often.
Do NannyGrannies have other educational or cultural skills?
Being mature-aged, NannyGrannies have a wealth of life experiences to share. No two NannyGrannies are quite the same so we have developed thorough profile questionnaires for NannyGrannies to complete, so their wonderful skills and talents are clear. Some speak a different language, others have crafting skills, while others may love to cook - explore the site and you’ll quickly get a sense of the many hidden talents of this wonderful cohort.
